31 May: Feast of Mary’s Visitation to Elizabeth
Celebrating the Year of Faith with Montfort
Feast of Mary’s Visitation to Elizabeth
St Luke tells us Mary went as quickly as she could to visit her cousin and share the news of each others’ pregnancy. Luke records Mary’s Hymn of Humility, Justice and praise, in the Magnificat.
St Louis Marie de Montfort gives his own translation of this, his 85th hymn, entitled “Magnificat”.
My Soul Glorifies the Lord!
Apart from this, Montfort’s only reference to this Feast is in the context of his 1st Method of saying the Rosary: “We offer this 2nd Joyful Mystery….and ask for true concern for the concern for others.”
In the 2nd Method for the Daughters of Wisdom, he highlights the sanctification of John the Baptist.
In his 4th method of saying the Rosary Montfort has us reflect on many aspects of Mary’s pregnancy; Her joy; Her dependence on Jesus and His on Her, as well as our dependence on them both; on Jesus’ self-giving as He left His Father to become human; on Joseph’s dilemma; on Mary’s song of Thanksgiving; of the sanctification of John the Baptist and Elizabeth; on and on Mary’s charity and humility in the service of Elizabeth.
What does this Mystery mean to you?
Do you focus on the Father, on Jesus, Elizabeth, John, Joseph, or Mary’s Magnificat?
